Many applications are available to employees and students remotely through virtual desktops. In a few cases, the Rowan VPN can be used if needed. A VPN is a virtual private network. A VPN client is the software installed on your computer, phone, or tablet and used to access the VPN. Rowan uses the Palo Alto GlobalProtect Client.
Some examples of services that require access to the University's Virtual Private Network, or VPN, when off campus, include:
- Access to the University's HPC environment and specialized computational resources (CC, RUCC, and CADD environments)
- Access to Remote Desktop and other administrative interfaces for individuals responsible for supporting some aspect of an application or IT service
All Rowan University faculty, staff, and students are now automatically provided VPN access. You don't need to request access anymore; you're ready to connect if you have Rowan NetID.
Access depends on your device:
- Rowan-Managed Devices: When connected to the VPN, access is equivalent to using the device on campus. You can fully utilize internal applications, receive security patches, and access administrative interfaces.
- Personal Devices: VPN access is limited and intended for specific services such as research environments or remote system support. For general access to applications, Citrix (access.rowan.edu) is the preferred method.
Use the following resources to get started with the VPN:
