Overview
This document provides instructions for advisors to release a student's hold and register or alter the student's registration in Self-Service Banner.
Solution
- Log in to Self Service Banner.
- Select the Faculty & Advisors tab.
- Select Advising Services.
- The Advisee Search will appear. Leave the defaulted term (Winter shown here). Enter the Student ID and tab to populate the student's information. Select View Profile.
- The student's profile will appear. Select Holds at the top right corner of the screen.
- Select the checkbox next to the hold you want to release then select Release.
If you wish to review the hold, select the arrow next to view the hold description. - You will be asked for a reason to release the hold. Please include your NetID and first year advisor registration. Select OK and the hold will be released.
You will receive a message stating that you have "Successfully released the holds." - Select Registration and Planning from the navigation panel on the left.
- Select Register for Classes.
- You will be asked to select a role for the registration. Select Advisor and then select OK.
- Select the term for registration, enter the Student ID, and tab to populate. Select Continue.
Note: If the "Password" field appears, please ensure you selected Advisor in the previous step. If Advisor is selected, but you are still prompted for a password, please contact the Office of the University Registrar so they can check the individual's setting. - The Register for Classes screen will appear. You can now register/alter registration.
Note: If there are prerequisites, major restrictions, etc., you will receive an error message. Should the advisor approve the override, the normal procedure should be followed by placing the override in SFASRPO. Once the override is entered into SFASRPO, the course can be registered.
