What is Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 provides access to the full suite of Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote, through an online portal. With Microsoft 365, students, faculty and staff can also download Office applications onto a personal device.
Who can access Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 Education is available to students, faculty and staff and other members of the Rowan community, though access varies by role.
- Full Access: Active students, active full-time and part-time employees except for custodial staff, and affiliates issued a University-owned computer receive full access to Microsoft 365. With full access, you can download and install the Office suite on up to 5 personal computers. (Note: Adjunct faculty members are only provided full access to Microsoft 365 when they are actively teaching.)
- Limited Access: Faculty affiliates who are not paid directly by Rowan University, including but not limited to clinical faculty at CMSRU, custodial staff, emeriti, affiliates who have not been issued a University-owned computer and employees and students whose Rowan NetID accounts are expiring receive limited access to Microsoft 365. With limited access, you can access the applications through the Microsoft 365 online portal, but you cannot download applications onto a personal device. Limited access also allows you to access Office applications on shared, University-owned computers on campus.
How do I access Microsoft 365?
You can access applications through the Microsoft 365 online portal.
If you have full access to Microsoft 365, you can download application on up to five personal devices.
What happens to my access to Microsoft 365 after I graduate or leave Rowan University?
You can use the plan until you graduate or until you are no longer enrolled or no longer employed at Rowan University.
When the plan expires, applications will enter a limited functionality mode that allows documents to be viewed but not edited. You also won't be able to create a new document. Other online services will no longer function.
How do I deactivate a license from a computer?
In the event you've used up all five of your designated installations from the Microsoft 365 portal, you can reclaim licenses by deactivating machines that are no longer using the Office suite.
Go to https://portal.office.com/account/ and under Office Apps & Devices click View Apps & Devices. Click the down arrow for devices and click Sign Out of the device you want to remove.
