How to Create a Voice-Over PowerPoint using Kaltura Capture in the Canvas Environment

1. Login to Canvas. In Global Navigation, click on ‘My Media’.

2. On the right side of the window, select the 'Add New' drop-down menu, and choose 'Kaltura Capture' to open the 'Kaltura Capture' page.




    1. If you haven’t installed the Kaltura Capture application yet, then click the download link for your computer’s operating system, which can be found towards the bottom of the page.



      1. Click on the download to install the software.
      2. After the installation is complete, refresh the KalturaCapture webpage.
      3. Return to the ‘My Media’ page. Click on the ‘Add New’ drop-down menu.
      4. Choose 'Kaltura Capture' to open the 'Kaltura Capture' page.If you haven’t installed the Kaltura Capture application yet, then click the download link for your computer’s operating system, which can be found towards the bottom of the page.

    2. A small dropdown window will appear at the top of the page. Select ‘Open Kaltura Capture
    3. You will now be presented with the KalturaCapture application recording widget or a recording library window if KalturaCapture is already open. (Click the red ‘New Recording’ button in the top right corner of the window if the recording library is open)



    4. KalturaCapture can record up to 3 inputs.

      1. Screen - Choose which computer screen KalturaCapture is to record. If you have more than one screen (or monitor), you choose which one to record. For voice over PowerPoint lectures, choose the screen that will show the PowerPoint audience view. Clicking the blue ‘Screen’ icon will enable or disable this input. If it’s disabled, it (and your PowerPoint slides) will not appear in the recording.
      2. Camera - If you want KalturaCapture to record your webcam or another camera you have attached to your computer, choose which one to use. Clicking the blue ‘Camera’ icon will enable or disable this input. If it’s disabled, it will not appear in the recording.
      3. Audio - If you want KalturaCapture to record audio from your computer’s built-in microphone or another audio source you have attached to your computer, choose which one to use. Clicking the blue ‘Audio’ icon will enable or disable this input. If it’s disabled, it will not appear in the recording.

    5. Click the red record button to begin recording. After the countdown, a recording toolbar will appear in the bottom right corner. (You can choose to minimize the recording toolbar if you don’t want it to show in your final recording.)



    6. Open your PowerPoint presentation as if you were going to deliver the presentation.
    7. Start the slide show presentation and begin delivering your presentation by speaking over the slides while advancing as necessary.
    8. Press the ‘Esc’ key on your keyboard to end the slide show presentation then click the square stop button to stop the recording.



    9. Click ‘Yes, Stop it’.



    10. A window appears so you can add metadata about the video such as the Title, a Description, and Tags.

 

3. Click ‘Save & Upload’ at the bottom of the screen and the recording will begin uploading to the Kaltura server. You should see the progress of the upload.



4. Once the content is uploaded to Kaltura, the video can be found your ‘My Media’ library in Canvas. Processing may take several minutes. Once processing is complete, the content will be available to share via the Canvas Media Gallery or by creating a new ‘Build Content’ item in your Canvas course.
