This article reflects the current updated interface. Future changes and improvements are expected soon. This document will be updated upon Instructure's releases.

Modules

In the past, you could only set a single release date for a module. Now you can assign a Module to an individual student or group of students, as well. To use this feature, click the three vertical dots at the right of the Module title. Click Assign to in the drop-down menu.

The Assign To tray slides out from the right of the screen with the Assign to tab chosen. To assign the module to certain students in the course, click the Assign To radio button and left-click in the box to get the list of students with their Banner ID numbers. Click the name of the student to add that person to the module. To assign more than one student, repeat this process.  Once all the students have been added, click the blue Save button.

Use the Settings tab to edit the module name and add or edit release dates. Edit module release dates by clicking the Lock Until checkbox. When done, click the blue Save button.

Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, and Pages

The Assign to button has been added to the landing page for assignments, discussions, quizzes, and pages. When you click into one of these items, an Assign To button is next to the Edit button. The slide out tray lets you edit the assignment dates without having to click into the actual assignment page.

Canvas has implemented a change to the way instructors and admins see “Assign to” settings for creating new Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, and Pages. The Assign dialog box at the bottom of the creation page has been replace with the Manage Assign To link.

Assign Access with blue Manage Assign To link visible

Click “Manage Assign To”. The Assign To tray slides out from the right side of the screen.

Icons in the upper left of the panel indicate what is being created. Quizzes and Assignments both show as Assignment.

Use the side panel as you would have used the “Assign” box previously. Add dates and times as needed for Due Date, Available From and Until. When finished, click the blue Apply button.

If giving one or more students a different due date, remember: do not delete the existing assignment. Rather click the +Add button to add a new Assign to box. Add individual students by left-clicking in the menu box below the words Assign To. Scroll through the class list to find the student, then click that student’s name.  To delete an Assign to box, click the red trash can icon.  Once edits are complete, click the blue Apply button at the bottom of the slide-out panel.
