Office 365 Online only sees documents and files in OneDrive. To open a a file stored on a computer's hard drive or a portable storage device (external hard drive or flash drive) with an Office 365 Online application, you will need to upload the document or file to OneDrive first. For more information about Office 365, read our article on getting started with Office 365.

  1. Go to portal.office.com.
  2. Enter your Rowan email address and click the Next button.
  3. Enter your Rowan Network username and password and click the Login button. You may also be prompted to authenticate with Duo.
  4. If prompted to "Stay signed in?", click the option that suits you best.
  5. Click the OneDrive icon under Apps.

  6. Click Upload.

  7. Select one of the options in the menu.

  8. Navigate to where the folder or file is located on your computer, select the folder or file, and then click Upload or Open.

  9. After the file appears in the Files list in OneDrive, you can click the file and the appropriate Office 365 Online application will open it. If a folder was uploaded, you can open the folder in the Files list, click the file inside the uploaded folder, and the appropriate Office 365 Online application will open it.

Notes

If you wish to keep the file(s) on your computer, you will need to download them from OneDrive to your computer.  You can do this by selecting the file in the Files list and then clicking Download.

Please note that if the file that was downloaded to your computer gets modified outside of Office 365 Online, you will need to upload the modified file to OneDrive before you can use it in Office 365 Online again.
