Privileges is a tool from IRT that allows users to temporarily grant themselves admin privileges in order to do various tasks such as installing software.

Getting Access:

Faculty can install Privileges through the Self-Service application on their computer. Staff must submit a ticket on the Ask a Question form in order to request admin access. Once approved access will be granted to install this new tool from the Self-Service application.

Using Privileges:

Once installed from Self-Service there will be a new lock icon in the dock and you can click to temporarily get admin access. The lock icon indicates that you are not currently an admin.

Note: If the dock icon is missing you can still run it from your applications folder and you can also drag it to your dock if desired.

Click the lock icon and it will ask if you want to request administrator privileges:

Click "Request privileges" and it will ask why you need Administrator access:

Enter a reason such as "Installing Zoom" and click "Continue." You will get a notification that Administrator privileges have been granted and the green padlock icon will change to a yellow unlocked padlock:

After roughly 15 minutes you will get a notification that your privileges have been revoked and it will change back to a green padlock icon. You can re-run this tool if you need access for longer than 15 minutes. Even if a box has already appeared asking for admin sign-in you can run this tool and then sign in.

Troubleshooting:

If you receive a message that you are not authorized to use the app it means your computer is likely not assigned to your correctly in our database and you will have to submit a ticket to have this corrected at https://support.rowan.edu
