Canvas: Using the Embed Kaltura Media tool

You can add media using the Embed Kaltura Media tool. This can help you keep your course organized by allowing you to add the media to a specific content area or folder.

To add media using the Embed Kaltura Media tool:

1. Click Modules
   
   
   
   
2. Click on the module where you'd like to add the media, and choose the + button on the module.
3. Choose the type of item (assignment, quiz, discussion or page) you will be using to embed video.
4. Whichever item you are choosing has the option to create at the top of the list, click create.
5. Give the item a name and click Add Item.  
6. Then edit the Item
7. In the rich content editor (RCE) click the plug icon.
8. Select View All 
   
   
   
   
   
9. Select Embed for existing media or Add New and then select the media you’d like to add. 
   
   
10. If uploading new media, title the video and add a description if necessary. Choose Save and Embed.

The video will now appear in the item you've chosen. You may also notice that the video is now in the Media Gallery. Any video you add using the Embed Kaltura Media tool should appear in this Media Gallery.

 

Kaltura media can also be used to create items for other forms of instruction. You can add media to a standard discussion board, or assignment in Canvas.

For example, if you would like to add media to a discussion or assignment, then while creating the discussion:

1. Click on the little plug icon
   
   
   
   
2. The Embed Kaltura Media tool then gives you access to your My Media library. Click Select next to the video you would like to appear.
   
   
   
   
3. Once you've selected your media, you can choose Save & Publish or Save. It will then appear in the discussion or assignment.
