Overview
Proctorio is an Online Examination Integrity Software. It is an automated proctoring system that records data about your testing environment while you are taking an exam. The use of Exam Integrity Software (Proctorio) is considered essential to help ensure the integrity of the testing environment and assist the instructor with test-taker identity validation.
Proctorio is not a downloaded software. Rather, it is a web browser extension. Once added, the extension remains in the browser. It can be deleted once the exam is concluded, if desired.
Please carefully read the Examination Integrity Policy located in your course's syllabus under the Grading section. The policy discusses details regarding the use of Proctorio and its requirements. It requires the use of a webcam (internal or external), microphone (internal or external), and identity verification via a valid photo ID (e.g., driver's license, Rowan ID card, etc.).
For more information about Exam Integrity Software in a course, students should contact their instructor directly.
If you need support within the setup of Proctorio itself or if you encounter issues with Proctorio, please contact Proctorio Support via their live chat. Simply click the extension icon in the upper right-hand corner of your browser before, during, or after the exam. In addition, Proctorio support can be emailed at support@proctorio.com.
To check computer system requirements and ensure your computer meets them, please visit https://proctorio.com/support/requirements.
Links to both of these are also included in the Automatic Proctoring module in the course where Proctorio is being used.

Add the Extension
Google Chrome
Please note: Rowan Online does not require the user to log into their Rowan Google account to install the Proctorio extension. Users should log into their Rowan Google account to access documents, spreadsheets, etc. that are stored on Google Drive.
The extension can be added without logging into any Google account; however, access to Proctorio within a Canvas course requires logging into Canvas.
Proctorio works best with Google Chrome. It is compatible with Microsoft Edge (see below), but Chrome is the preferred browser. To install the Proctorio extension in Chrome, navigate to getproctorio.com.
If Chrome is already installed, Step 1 is already complete. Click the "click here" link in Step 2: Install Proctorio Chrome Extension, which brings up the chrome web store Proctorio page. Click the blue Add to Chrome button. The system will look to see if Proctorio is already installed; the blue button may say "Checking."
A pop-up box will ask 'Add "Proctorio"?' Click the white left-hand button to Add Extension.
Proctorio is now ready to be used in the Canvas course where it has been deployed.
The extension can be deleted by clicking the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the webpage, then clicking More Tools > Extensions and removing the Proctorio extension. However, if you choose to remove the extension, it will have to be added back for every exam.
Once the extension has been added to Chrome, students can access Proctorio's Knowledge Base at Proctorio Student Support.
Microsoft Edge
As noted above, Proctorio works best with Google Chrome. However, it is also compatible with Microsoft Edge.
To install the Proctorio extension, open the Edge browser and navigate to getproctorio.com.
If Chrome is already installed, Step 1 is already complete. Click the "click here" link in Step 2: Install Proctorio Chrome Extension, which brings up the chrome web store Proctorio page. Click the blue Add to Chrome button.
A pop-up box will ask 'Add "Proctorio" to Microsoft Edge?' Click the gray left-hand button to Add Extension.
Proctorio is now ready to be used in the Canvas course where it has been deployed.
The extension can be deleted by clicking the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner of the webpage, then clicking Extensions in the drop-down and removing the Proctorio extension. However, if you choose to remove the extension, it will have to be added back for every exam.
Once the extension has been added to Edge, students can access Proctorio's Knowledge Base at Proctorio Student Support.
Practice Quiz
Once the extension is added, log into Canvas and navigate to a course you are enrolled in that will be using it. In the Modules page, you will see a Module on Automatic Proctoring. Please review the Proctorio Quick Start Guide for Students – Canvas PDF located there.
Search for the Module titled Proctorio Onboarding Practice Quiz (Remotely Proctored). Follow the instructions to take the practice quiz.
If you encounter any problems taking or submitting the practice quiz or have any other questions, please contact Rowan Online at support@rowan.edu.
