Take a Screenshot Using Snip & Sketch Tool in Windows 10

Overview

People using Windows 10 computers are not able to take screenshots using the PrtSc key on their keyboards or using the Snipping Tool in the Start Menu. These instructions will show you how to use the Snip & Sketch Tool to take a screenshot on a Windows 10 computer.

Solution

  1. Press the Windows key + Shift + S keys at the same.

  2. The screen will gray out slightly.
  3. Select the area you want to take a screenshot of by clicking and holding the left mouse button down and then dragging the window around the area.
  4. A notification will appear at the lower right corner of the screen saying that the screenshot has been saved to the clipboard.

  5. You can now paste the screenshot into the document by pressing the CTRL + V keys at the same time or by right-clicking in the document and selecting Paste in the context menu.

  6. You can also save the screenshot as a file by clicking the notification at the lower right corner. A Snip & Sketch window will appear. Clicking the Save icon (a floppy disk) will bring up the Save As windows where you can select the save location and give the screenshot a file name.

Notes

Microsoft has discontinued the use of the Snipping Tool in recent versions of Windows 10 and replaced it with the Snip & Sketch Tool.  The Snipping Tool being replaced has also stopped the PrtSc button from working.
