Duo: Log In Using Two-Factor Authentication

This document provides instructions for using Duo two-factor authentication when logging in to Rowan applications and websites. There are several ways you can verify your identity with two-factor authentication. We recommend setting up Duo Mobile on your phone, as it's the fastest, easiest and most secure method.

Verifying Your Identity With Duo

Information Resources & Technology applied a new Duo prompt to the University's single sign-on service. You'll now see the new prompt when logging in to Canvas, Google Drive, Self-Service Banner, and Rowan NetID after that date.

The first time you log in using the new prompt, it will automatically start the verification process with the most secure method you have set up.

Push Notifications

If you have Duo Mobile installed on your phone, you'll receive a push notification, which uses end-to-end encryption that's not available with a text message or phone call. If you haven't already, we recommend setting up Duo Mobile on your phone, as it's the fastest, easiest, and most secure method.

When pushed by Duo, check your phone notifications for a prompt to either Accept or Deny the action.

If you don't have Duo Mobile set up, the prompt will automatically send a text or call you on the device you have on file.

Choosing Another Verification Method

You can also opt to verify your identity another way, and the prompt will automatically use that method moving forward. Click Other options to select a different verification method.

You'll see a list of the other verification options you have on file. Select the option you want to use and move forward with the verification process. For information about other verification options, see Duo Universal Prompt Login Options on the Duo website.

NOTE: The Duo Mobile Passcode option is now disabled in some services and may soon be disabled completely. We recommend always using a Duo Push.

Trust Your Browser

With the new prompt, you will see a "Trust this browser?" notice. Select Yes, trust browser to bypass Duo for 14 days for most applications in that specific internet browser, such as Chrome, Safari, IE, Firefox. This feature requires browser cookies. If you use a different internet browser, or switch computers, you will be prompted again by Duo.
