Cross-listing is a self-elective system that allows instructors to merge two or more course sections into a single course shell in Canvas. Cross-listing creates a primary course shell and all sections are added to it. Student enrollments from individual sections are automatically added to the primary course shell.

The functions and limitations of the cross-listing tool are:

To request a cross-list:

  1. Navigate to the Rowan Online portal.
  2. Click LOG IN, enter your Rowan NetID and Password, and click Login.
  3. Expand the top right menu, click My Courses.

Highlighting the My Courses tab in the top navigation menu.

  4. In the Actions section, click Cross-List Courses.

Cross-List Button is highlighted on the My Courses page.

  5. In the Schedule section, select the required term from the Select a Term dropdown menu. The list of the courses for the chosen term appears.

  6. Click the Cross-List button next to the primary course. The primary course, or parent course is where multiple sections are combined.

    The Cross-List button is highlighted.

  7. Click the Add button next to each section or course you would like to combine with the primary course. The primary course is identified by the Primary Course label. The course sections you are requesting to cross-list are listed in the Confirmation section.

The image highlights the Primary Course Label, Add Button, Confirmation Header, and the Confirm Button.

  8. Click Confirm. The cross-list request is created and will be processed by Rowan Online within 5 business days of submission. Once Rowan Online approves your cross-list, cross-listing courses cannot be undone. To remove incorrectly added sections from the cross-list, click the Remove button.
