Accessing Section Tally
1. How do I access the Section Tally App?
You can access the Section Tally here: Section Tally or by visiting the Registrar's Section Tally Page
Searching for Courses
2. How do I search for courses using the Section Tally?
- Go to the Section Tally page Section Tally .
- Select the desired term and click "Continue."
- You can enter specific search criteria such as part of term, department, or subject.
- You may also click "Advanced Search" to filter courses using additional criteria such as day, time, part of term, instructor, or instructional method.
- If no search criteria are entered, clicking "Search" will return all courses in the selected term.
This flexibility allows you to start with a broad search or narrow down by specific parameters as needed.
Filtering & Sorting Options
3. How can I view only courses with open seats?
Click the “Open Seats” tab to show only sections with available seats.
4. What happens when I click “Clear all filters”?
All filters — term, department, subject, etc. — will be reset to the default state.
5. How do I reset my search or sorting preferences?
Click the blue Reset Sorting button to remove all custom sort orders.
6. What do I do if my search returns too many results?
Use more filters like Instructor or Meeting Time, or reduce rows per page from 100 to 25.
Understanding the Course Table
7. Can I see real-time seat availability for courses?
Yes. The table updates in real-time with values for:
- Seats available
- Students enrolled
- Max enrollment
8. What does “Avail” mean in the course table?
"Avail" = Available Seats (open seats left for registration)
Hover over the column name for a description or view the Data Dictionary
9. What do “W.Avail”, “W.Count”, and “W.Cap” mean?
These are Waitlist metrics:
- W.Avail = Available waitlist seats
- W.Count = Current waitlisted students
- W.Cap = Max waitlist size

10. What does “Max Resv” and “Left Resv” mean?
- Max Resv = Total reserved seats
- Left Resv = Reserved seats still available
11. What does “RoomCap” mean?
The physical seating capacity of the assigned classroom.
12. What does “Meeting Time” show?
It shows class days, times, locations, and exam schedule if applicable.
13. What does the seat availability color coding mean?
- 🔴 Red – No seats available
- 🟡 Yellow – ≤ 25% seats open
- 🟢 Green – > 25% seats open
14. How do I export the search results?
Click the green Download as Excel button to save your filtered course list.
15. Can I customize the columns I see?
Yes. Click Show/Hide Columns to toggle visibility for:
- Instructor
- Reservation info
- Waitlist data
- Room capacity
16. How do I search within the results table?
Each column in the results table (CRN, Instructor, Meeting Time, etc.) has its own search bar below the column name.
You can type directly into these fields to filter rows based on that column’s values — for example, to find a specific instructor or building.
17. What format is used for Meeting Times?
Meeting time follows this pattern:MW 1530 1645 Robinson Hall 224 (Class)
Explanation:
- M = Monday, T = Tuesday, W = Wednesday, R = Thursday, F = Friday, S = Saturday
- 1530 1645 means the class runs from 3:30 PM to 4:45 PM
- Robinson Hall 224 is the building and room
- The type (e.g., Class, Exam) is in parentheses

19. Where can I find course corequisite and prerequisite information?
Click the left arrow icon (▸) next to the course row or the CRN link to open the detailed course view.
Look for the section titled "Course Requisite Information."
20. Where can I find restriction information?
Restrictions (like major-only or class standing) are listed in the same detailed course view, under "Restrictions".
Access this by clicking the arrow icon or the CRN.

It opens a dedicated page in a new tab, displaying the same details as the panel — great for:

22. Is this link accessible from outside Rowan?
