Cross-listing is a self-elective system that allows instructors to merge two or more course sections into a single course shell in Canvas. Cross-listing creates a primary course shell and all sections are added to it. Student enrollments from individual sections are automatically added to the primary course shell.

The functions and limitations of the cross-listing tool are:

To request a cross-list:

  1. Navigate to the Rowan Online portal.
  2. Click LOG IN, enter your Rowan NetID and Password, and click Login.
  3. Expand the top right menu, click My Courses.

Highlighting the My Courses tab in the top navigation menu.

  4. Click Cross-List Courses.
  5. Select the required term from the Select a Term dropdown menu. The list of the courses for the chosen term appears.
  6. Select the radio button next to the courses you wish to cross-list.
  7. Click the Cross-List button.

  1. On the next screen, Select the primary course from the drop down menu.
  2. Then select how you would like the shell created from the drop-down menu:
    • Create an empty course shell from the standard template: this option allows you to create and build course content using the Rowan Online course template. You must use the standard template for syllabus, bio, and course structure.
    • Copy content from another course that I have taught in Canvas: this option allows you to choose a course from a previous semester to copy content and modify the content as required. You can only copy content from the courses that you are the instructor of record in Banner and Section Tally.

  3. Click Cross-list Courses. The cross-list request is created and will be processed by Rowan Online within 10 business days of submission. This is a final action and CANNOT be undone for any reason. If you make an incorrect choice select the Go Back button for confirming.
