A large number of applications are available to employees and students remotely through virtual desktops. In a few cases, the Rowan VPN can be used if needed. A VPN is a virtual private network. A VPN client is the actual software that is installed on your computer, phone, or tablet that is used to access it. Rowan uses the Palo Alto GlobalProtect Client.
Some examples of services that require access to the University's Virtual Private Network, or VPN, when off campus, include:
- Access to the University's HPC environment and specialized computational resources (CC, RUCC, and CADD environments)
- Access to Remote Desktop and other administrative interfaces for individuals responsible for supporting some aspect of an application or IT service
To request access to the VPN:
- Complete your required Security Awareness Training.
- Submit a request for VPN access in the IRT Support Portal.
Faculty, staff, and students are eligible to request VPN access. Each request for VPN service is reviewed to ensure the use case justification is appropriate for VPN service access and that the user has completed all required Security Awareness training prior to being approved for VPN service.
Once you have been granted access to the VPN, use the following resources to get started with the VPN:
